Her story has been told for thousands of years. Her name has been translated into languages all over the world. She was a woman betrayed; scorned by a lover to whom she gave everything in hopes of a perfect Love. A woman driven by passion, by madness, to murder her children. Legend says she was taken into the sky by the gods; shamed, hung, and transformed into a malicious spirit, doomed to wander the riverbanks for all eternity. Her only cry, "¡Ay, mis hijos!"

La Chingada is a modern exploration of the legend of La Llorona. Utilizing found text, Aboriginal folktales, Chicano poetry, liturgical iconography, transcripts from contemporary cases of filicide, and dance, the play investigates the power of oral tradition to obscure truths over time and seeks to reimagine and reclaim not only La Llorona's story, but her Voice.
